Lately on Fridays, we?ve been getting you into the weekend mindset by highlighting the best of the city?s food truck desserts. Any discussion of the best NY food truck desserts has to include Sweetery NYC, who do a lot of things well, but especially baked goods.

We brought home an assortment of cookies to enjoy with our family ? and enjoy them we did. Our goodie bag included a snickerdoodle ($2), flourless chocolate walnut ($2.25) and a macarella ($3).

You can?t tell from the photo, but take our word for it, these were big cookies. We didn?t measure, but they had to be 5-6 inches wide each.

The flourless chocolate walnut cookie was exactly as advertised, nutty and chocolatey. The lack of flour made the cookie denser and less ?cakey?, although I wouldn?t call it heavy.

Snickerdoodle is always high on our list, being big fans of cinnamon. The cookie was soft and tasty, with a nice dose of cinnamon sugar dusting the top. Yum!

The macarella is one of the most popular items on Sweetery?s menu. It?s the most expensive cookie at $3, but is actually two coconut macaroon cookies sandwiched around nutella cream. The toasted coconut flavor is really nice, and it?s an inspired choice to pair this with nutella, a chocolate hazelnut cream.

The Sweetery truck spends most mornings on Hudson St just below Houston St, in front of the Saatchi & Saatchi building. They were the first truck to park in this area a couple a years ago, which is now a hotbed for food trucks.

Wellcome Trust and MRC invest in world-class Stem Cell Institute ...

Two of the UK?s largest funders of medical research are to invest ?8 million in a new world-leading centre for stem cell biology and medicine. The Wellcome Trust-Medical Research Council Cambridge Stem Cell Institute will advance our understanding of stem cells and their potential to treat a range of life-threatening conditions that currently have no effective cures.

Stem cells can renew themselves almost indefinitely and can develop into any of the cell types in the body. They are an invaluable tool for scientists studying the mechanisms of human disease and could be used as an alternative to animal models by pharmaceutical companies developing new drugs. They also show great promise as potential treatments for devastating conditions such as liver disease, diabetes, blindness and spinal cord injury and neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson's disease.

The new Institute, at the University of Cambridge, will build on existing investment by the Medical Research Council (MRC) and the Wellcome Trust, uniting 30 leading research teams with expertise across the three main types of stem cell: embryonic, adult and induced pluripotent cells.

Research scientists will work alongside technology specialists and doctors to develop new therapeutic approaches underpinned by a strong base of fundamental stem cell biology. Located in Cambridge, the Institute is near the largest cluster of biotechnology companies in Europe, allowing unrivalled opportunities for industry collaboration.

Professor Austin Smith, Director of the new Institute, said: "The Wellcome Trust-MRC Cambridge Stem Cell Institute will be an invigorating environment for cross-fertilisation between fundamental and translational researchers. Our aim is to close the knowledge gap and drive stem cell research forward towards clinical applications. The world-class facilities will attract the best international talent from the fields of stem cell biology and regenerative medicine to pursue this goal."

Sir Mark Walport, Director of the Wellcome Trust, said: "This strategic collaboration between the UK's two largest funders of medical research has united teams from across Cambridge that work across all types of stem cell research and will enable its director, Austin Smith, to attract outstanding researchers in the field. The new institute will play a vital part in accelerating our understanding health and disease and in the development of new treatments and will cement the UK's position as a world leader in stem cell research."

Professor Sir John Savill, Chief Executive of the MRC, said: "The UK is currently one of the best places in the world to do stem cell research, and we want to make sure that continues to be the case now and for the next generation of scientists. By joining forces with the Wellcome Trust to invest strategically in all areas of stem cell science, embracing both adult and embryonic stem cells, we will create a competitive and attractive environment for future commercial investment in regenerative medicine."

It is intended that the Institute will eventually be housed in a purpose-built 8000-m2 facility to be constructed on the Cambridge Biomedical Research Campus. Key areas of research at the Institute include pluripotency, haematopoiesis, epithelial tissues, and neural and cardiovascular stem cells.

Professor Sir Patrick Sissons, Regius Professor of Physic and Head of the School of Clinical Medicine at the University of Cambridge, said: "This joint funding initiative from the Wellcome Trust and MRC gives us the opportunity to link Cambridge's great strengths in stem cell biology with our strengths in translational clinical research, and thus to give new insights into disease mechanisms - and ultimately to develop new therapies.

"In association with the initiative, we all look forward to the future co-location of stem cell biology and medicine in the new building planned for the Cambridge Biomedical Campus."

As many of you know, I have a strong international following of real estate investors.? I love working with them and I love even more when I get to travel to their countries to speak to their principals, partners, and groups.? One day, I hope to see every country in the world!? In speaking with new investors all the time, one thing I feel I should address is the misconception of multi-family property values here in Northern New Jersey.? I don?t think there is a multi-family market in the country that is stronger then the NY Metro areas of Northern NJ.? I follow other good markets like Tampa, Florida whose vacancy rates are about 5% now, but NJ is still stronger with continuous rental rate increases.? I say NJ is stronger for one reason and this is because the income of the demographic of renters in the area has enough room for even MORE rental rate increases without crossing the threshold of unaffordability if you consider the 33% income to rent ratio.

In addition to rental rates rising, the local NY Metro job and income levels are improving which is resulting in lower Capitalization Rates on multi-family properties.? A year ago when a 9% Cap Rate was easy to find in Jersey City, we are now having difficulty finding quality 7.5% Cap Rate investments, a healthy sign for the market believe it or not.

Investors looking to buy multi-family property must lose the double digit Cap Rate mentality in Northern NJ.? Otherwise it will be very difficult to find a quality real estate broker / agent to work with you because us good ones know where the market is trading at and putting in effort to find that type of inventory that we know does not exist is a waste of their time and the investors time.

Popular multi-family markets that we service, we have analyzed recent sales and have listed the average Capitalization Rate and what you can expect to see for a quality deal in these areas.

Jersey City ? 7.5%

East Orange ? 8.0%

Newark ? 7.0%

Hoboken ? 4.9%

Bloomfield ? 6.8%

I?m not saying that stronger Cap Rates don?t exist at all, but I am saying that there is so much hyper-activity / demand for multi-family that most in this range are selling quickly.? If you are holding out for 10% Cap Rates like some of my investors, you will be sitting on that lonely fence for a long time.? Now is definately the time to buy and build your Cap Rate through annual rent increases and adding value to your asset.

Unusual fundraiser for Leukemia and Lymphoma ... - Cancer Kick

When a group of scuba divers went looking for a way to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, they decided on a novel idea: playing darts underwater for prizes.

Hosted by Diver?s Supply Indy and Aqua Pro HD, the underwater darts tournament will be Aug. 18 at Warren Central High School on the Far Eastside of Indianapolis.

In the event, a team of two scuba divers will throw four Toypedo ?darts? through square targets made from PVC pipe. Like playing a game of darts on land, the center bull?s-eye is worth the greatest number of points. If the divers manage to bounce the Toypedos off the surface of the pool, points are doubled. The winning team will win a prize.

?Like a race, people sign up and care how well they do, but the real goal is to raise money for LLS,? tournament organizer Preston Hobbie said.

According to Hobbie, an instructor at Diver?s Supply Indy, his club had always looked for ways to give back to the community but never found the right opportunity. It wasn?t until 2008, when his sister was diagnosed with lymphoma, that he realized he had found something worth raising money for. Then, in 2009, one of his students was diagnosed with leukemia.

Hobbie, an Indianapolis resident, found a model for the tournament from another diving group in Cincinnati. It successfully raised money for breast cancer, and he felt he had enough passion to spearhead the event.

With help from fellow dive club members, Hobbie secured in-kind sponsors from Starbucks and Sam?s Club and a bed and breakfast in New Albany that donated an overnight stay for a silent auction.

While Hobbie is enthusiastic about the event, he is more excited to be sharing it with his sister, Bettye Tuzza, who is flying to Indy between chemotherapy treatments, as well as Megan Yoder, 16, his diving student, whose leukemia is now in remission.

?She?s now a vibrant 16-year-old arguing with her dad about how overprotective he is,? Hobbie said of Yoder, a junior at Roncalli High School.

In the cart? Maybe a hint about Romney's pick

WOLFEBORO, N.H. (AP) ? Even Mitt Romney's shopping cart becomes a clue when trying to solve the political world's biggest mystery.

The Republican presidential candidate stopped by a supermarket near his New Hampshire vacation home to buy cases of water, Wild Cherry Pepsi and Greek yogurt.

"I got some folks coming over today," Romney told reporters Monday as he loaded groceries into a black Chevy Suburban.

Would those guests include potential running mates? Romney's only response was laughter.

He has repeatedly shrugged off questions about his vice presidential selection. But as the clock winds down before this month's Republican National Convention, political observers are grasping at the slightest hint.

Once his shopping list became public, people instantly began speculating on Twitter ? half-jokingly ? about the yogurt and soda preferences of those on the vice presidential short list. Some reporters scrambled to study the travel schedules of potential contenders while others checked on how much longer Romney's wife, Ann, would spend with the family horse at the London Olympics. Romney isn't likely to make his decision public without her at his side.

There are no clear answers. The Republican presidential candidate's senior aides have teased for weeks that his selection of a vice presidential contender could come any day. But that's all they're saying. And in a tight-knit campaign known for discipline, the handful of people involved in the selection process have refused to share whether Romney has reached a decision or reveal who's being vetted.

The level of secrecy is so great that some of Romney's own staffers aren't sure whether schedules, Twitter messages and public statements are being manipulated to throw people off track. Misinformation, after all, is an undeniable reality in modern presidential politics.

"The big VP announcement is coming soon and the buzz here at campaign headquarters is exciting," campaign manager Matt Rhoades wrote in a fundraising message late last week that offered donors a chance to meet Romney's running mate in person.

Romney did not meet with prospective candidates Monday. Instead, he shared his groceries with a few senior advisers, including the head of his vice presidential search, Beth Myers. Last week, Myers told supporters they could "be the first to get the VP scoop" by downloading a new mobile phone app.

The pieces are in place. The campaign has hired a staff for the running mate and set detailed fundraising expectations. Romney has studied candidates in YouTube videos and watched others in person. Aides have pored through tax filings and personal histories to prevent any surprises.

Above all, Romney is expected to select someone ready to assume the presidency on Day One. The standard has been applied ? at least in part ? because of problems surrounding the GOP's last vice presidential nominee, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who struggled to inspire confidence among the broader electorate.

The Romney campaign also wants a team player. Possible running mates such as former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan have been aggressively campaigning on Romney's behalf across the country in recent months.

Portman, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell are expected to join Romney on segments of a bus tour that begins Saturday in Virginia and moves to North Carolina, Florida and Ohio. Pawlenty has campaign events scheduled for New Hampshire next weekend. And each of the men has scheduling holes in the coming days that could allow him to slip away quietly for a big announcement.

More clues lie among the speaker's list for the upcoming Republican National Convention. Romney's pick probably wouldn't have scored one of the spots; the convention speakers now include South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez , former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

But nothing is for certain in this game. Presidential candidates historically have gone to great lengths to keep their deliberations secret until they're ready to announce a choice.

When George W. Bush settled on Dick Cheney in 2000 more than a week before his running mate was to be announced, aides worried that the secret might not hold. To throw off reporters, campaign architect Karl Rove told a campaign aide known to leak information to reporters that former Sen. John Danforth of Missouri had emerged as a top candidate. Three television networks reported the news, giving the campaign some breathing room for Cheney's announcement, Rove wrote in a memoir.

Romney may be doing some head faking as well. The Drudge Report, a conservative website with ties to the Romney campaign, posted a story last month suggesting that Rice had emerged as Romney's top choice. Rice previously had said "there is no way" she would serve as vice president. She also described herself as "mildly pro-choice," which would violate Romney's promise to select a candidate who opposes abortion rights.

Just don't ask Romney to comment on the mystery directly. Campaigning in the Las Vegas area over the weekend, he told reporters he would absolutely "decide and announce my running mate before the third day of the Republican convention."

That's not much help. The third day of the four-day convention is usually when the running mate addresses the delegates.

"Other than that," Romney said, "I've got nothing for you."
